About

Spirit Fruit is a Christ centered ministry seeking to help homeless people in the Chicago community, and reconcile people to Yahweh their creator. This site is designed to crowdfund assistance services for unhoused image bearers in the Chicago area, and provide guidance for Christian discipleship, and Love for all neighbors.

 Values

We focus on weightier matters;

because all image bearers matter.

Genesis 1:27

So God created mankind in his own image,

in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Mission

Our mission at Spirit Fruit Ministries is to equip homeless Chicago image bearers with resources to maintain a healthy well being. We are dedicated to accomplish this goal through restoration of basic human dignities, intentional relationships, and holistic care.

Taja's Story

     In one of my favorite adaptations of Alice in Wonderland; the main character Alice asks; “Would you tell me please, which way I ought to go from here?”, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the cat. “I don't much care where,” replied Alice. “Then it doesn't matter which way you go,” the cat reasoned. This conversation always intrigued me and consequently birthed one of my biggest fears. That being to live my life without direction and wander aimlessly.

     Consequently, that was my life before I turned to God. I accepted Jesus as my King after studying the Bible in College. Before Jesus I was directionless, without purpose and hopeless. However, after I learned of God's Love, his purpose for my life, and Fatherly devotion to me; I found new joy in life and in his promises. Despite a history of dysfunction;  I found solace and comfort in my adoption into the Christian family.

     As I continued to grow spiritually in my walk with God, the Lord of Host revealed to me various calls he has for his created beings. One of those calls is famously summed up in Matthew 22:36-40 which states; “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’.This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

     Upon reading this I realized that ultimately my creator desires for me to Love him, and love all of his created people. Especially his image bearers who are most in need. Micah 6:8 reasons; “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. and what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God? Ever since hearing the Lord's call for mercy on his disadvantaged image bearers; the Lord has given me an unquenchable desire to assist them on their journeys.

     This developed in me a love and appreciation for human services, and a desire to pay it forward and support others. It's that very real desire within me that led me to get my Bachelor’s in Pre-Counseling and Human Services. My degree partnered with my faith produced in me a heightened awareness to those less fortunate than me, and a longing to take action. This longing birthed Spirit Fruit and what it is today. Through generous supporters I intend to replicate Lava Mae’s mobile hygiene services to improve the well being of the homeless in Chicago. I not only feel a yearning to do it but a calling.

     I truly desire to improve the quality of life for image bearers in my community, and Lava Mae is the vessel in which I can make that happen. It is both a privilege and an honor to serve alongside Lava Mae in contributing to the mission God has begun among his neglected. As someone with a background of dysfunction, and having been unhoused myself; I know how hard it is to stay optimistic when the odds seemingly appear stacked against you. Especially when basic human dignities become a luxury. By starting a mobile hygiene ministry in Chicago I hope to empower its unhoused community through restoration of human dignities, spiritual guidance, and encouraging Christ centered relationships.

     In conclusion, I simply desire to serve and be approved by Yahweh our creator. I desire ultimately to assist the least of people in my community and live my life with intentional mercy, purpose and faithful conviction. Near the end of Alice and Wonderland; the Mad Hatter once sadly stated to Alice; “You used to be much more..."muchier." You've lost your muchness.” In life I never want to lose my muchness and always bring salt to the earth.  At the end of my life my biggest accomplishment would be for my King and savior to say to me “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
